Learn moreUpon arriving at Tap Mun, continue north along the street, and you can come across three adjacent ancient temples, one of which is Tin Hau Temple. Built in the late Ming Dynasty or early Qing Dynasty, the temple has a history of over 400 years.
King Lam School was established early before 1913. It has a significant value in modern rural education, and it was once visited by two former Governors, Sir David Clive Crosbie Trench and Sir Edward Youde. In its early days, King Lam School was set at Tin Hau Temple in Tap Mun Ha Wai. With government funding and donations from villagers, the school was later moved to the current site.
If you follow the path beside Tin Hau Temple, you can see a vast grassland. At the Tap Mun Grassland, not only can you enjoy the boundless sea view, but you can also have the chance to meet the locally bred Tap Mun cows.
Climbing up the steps in the northern side of Tap Mun Grassland, you will reach Dragon View Pavilion, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the island.
Strolling along the trail in the south, you will find two neatly stacked rectangular rocks of around six metres high in the shape of the Chinese character “呂” (Lui). It is also said to resemble a stupa, and together with the nearby Tap Mun Cave that opens to Mirs Bay like a door, the island was thus named “Fat Tap Mun” (Stupa Door), which was later simplified as Tap Mun.
